The Painting is Living
Emanuel Sammartano Solo Exhibition

Exhibition statement

Emanuel Sammartano is an Italian Architect and Designer based in Sydney. In the recent years, he has built numerous luxury retail shops in Australia and New Zealand and his projects include important flag ship stores, luxury residential and hotels. Emanuel is the Creative Director of Live in Art Gallery, where his first debut took place with his outside-the-lines solo exhibition “Sole Luna”. He is currently working collaboratively with the gallery and artists to create interesting new projects for the contemporary Australian design and art scene.

He has a deep enthusiastic creativity and passion that ranges from antique to contemporary that he loves to combine. He has been deeply influenced by his early experience with his father, an antique collector and restorer. Moreover, his academic studies and a deep interest in the Bauhaus and De Stijl periods, have encouraged him to develop an acute sensibility and peculiar artistic sense.

We live in a time where we often find ourselves poking around the Internet, carefully considering which creative endeavour to pursue in anticipation of our hallowed free time. The inspiring design of Emanuel never allows himself to put his talents in a box. Quite the opposite: his work crosses boundaries and disciplines. He makes major contributions to architecture and design, but also dabbles in fine arts, from where he takes inspirations and creates real pieces of “DESIGN as ART” furniture. The relation between art, architecture, antique objects and design, combines his work in a unique and personal process where all influences are fused together creating something original and unexpected but at the same time real objects. He works in a sequence of ideas and meaning, and when he is about to finish a work his mind is already triggered onto the next one. His work comes about through sequential reasoning led by his intuition. A free structuring process is crucial to unleash his creativity.

It is all there: beautiful compositions, balance, colours, intelligence, originality…simply yet so sophisticated!

Imagine an old painting,

a dark background,

a subject still in its whole nature,

glory and beauty

waiting to be out of the picture.

Like a final good-bye,

an “Adieu” an “Adieu” to that indelible moment…

Imagine a red cloak of heavy cloth,

a green shiny apple,

a pink innocent visage…

The attention concentrates on the colour,

a colour that fills in the shape.

Everything else is pulled

inside out

and boils.

The twinkle of the emotion in our eyes

move what was still and this is how

The Painting is Living:

a social cry of the past,

for the future,

a rebellion against the annihilation

and for the building of human values.
